Amazon Prime Video has picked up a television adaptation of the giant-robots-fighting-monsters Pacific Rim movies. Legendary, which owns the rights to the franchise, will be producing in association with MGM studios for the show to debut on the tech giant’s streaming channel.
The new series will be overseen by Eric Heisserer, showrunner, executive producer and writer of Netflix’s fantasy series Shadow and Bone. He will write and executive produce this new series.
From director Guillermo del Toro, Pacific Rim debuted in 2013 and featured humanity building giant robot battle suits to fight off an invasion of giant monsters from another dimension. Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman headed up the cast. A sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, followed in 2018 with John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny joinig the franchise while Kikuchi, Day and Gorman reprised their roles from the first film.
Outside of Heisserer, no other creative personnel have been announced for the project. Likewise, no production or release date information was announced either.
