HBO Max has given a second season renewal to the animated Creature Commandos series. The show is currently in the middle of its seven episode first season run, with its final episode set for January 9.

The series is created by DC Studios head honcho James Gunn and centers on a number of DC Comics’s more monsterous characters – Weasel, Dr. Phosphorus, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Bride, and GI Robot – who have been turned into a government covert black ops team against their will. The show already shares connections through actress Viola Davis’s previously seen character of Amanda Waller with Gunn’s The Suicide Squad feature film and Peacemaker Max series, which the writer/director is retconning into the upcoming franchise reboot which kicks into high gear next July with the highly anticipated release of Superman. Additionally, Frank Grillo who voices government operative Rick Flagg Sr on the show, will also portray the character in live action in Superman.
