Jon Stewart is extending his Monday night hosting gig on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. Comedy Central has announced that Stewart’s stint, which saw his return behind the desk of the satirical news show back in February after a seven-year hiatus, will continue through the end of 2025.
Initially Stewart’s return was set to run through next week’s Presidential election. The series announced last week a special live, Election Night one-hour special which Stewart will anchor.
In a press release, Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and president/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios stated –
Jon’s incisive intellect and sharp wit make him one of the most important voices in political and cultural commentary today. His ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear-eyed insights is exactly what we need, which is why we are thrilled to have him leading The Daily Show for another year.
Originally launched by Comedy Central in July 1996, the series was first hosted by Craig Kilborne. Stewart took over hosting duties in January 1998 and shifted the show’s focus onto more political satire. Over time, the show has become Comedy Central’s longest-running programs winning 26 Primetime Emmy Awards in the process.
