A new live action Star Trek series is in development from Dear White People writer/director Justin Simien and Star Trek: Lower Decks actress-turned-Star Trek: Starfleet Academy writer Tawny Newsome.

The series was announced during the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con today.

The Hollywood ReporterHollywood Reporter is stating that the unnamed series will be an action-comedy that –

centers on Federation outsiders who are serving on a gleaming resort planet. Not only that, their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.

If the show goes to series, it will fill a comedy gap being created by Lower Decks ending after its upcoming fifth season and join the about-to-go-into-production Starfleet Academy s a new wave of Trek series.
