Disney has ordered a new series focusing on the Marvel Comics android superhero the Vision for their Disney+ streaming service.
The series will be spinning off from 2021’s WandaVision and see the return of actor Paul Bettany in the role that he has been playing in various Marvel Cinematic Universe installments since 2015’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Terry Matalas, hot off of the critics and fan praised third season of Star Trek: Picard, has been tapped to oversee this new series, with the Hollywood Reporter stating that a writers room for the project started meeting this week.
A Vision-centric series has been in development at Marvel for some time with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer writing. However, she moved off the project at some point to oversee the other WandaVision spinoff Agatha All Along. At one point, the series was called Vision Quest, but that title seems to have been discarded.
The order interestingly comes in the aftermath of Disney chief Bob Iger decree that the company would be pulling back the number of series it would produce for Disney+ to just two series a year. Currently, Disney+ has the aforementioned Agatha All Along series set to premier on September 18, 2024 and their Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart series set for next year. On the animation side, they have Eyes of Wakanda and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man that have been previously announced for release sometime this year. Although there is no official announcement as to when the show will premier, it appears as if this Vision series would be appearing in 2026 at the earliest.
