Director Craig Gillepsie will be guiding the adventures of Superman’s cousin Kara as Warner Brothers has hired the Dumb Money director to helm Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.
Drawing inspiration from the DC Comics miniseries of the same name from Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the film will star House of the Dragonās Milly Alcock in title role of Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.
The film is set to be a part of the first wave of titles from Warner Brothers and DC Studios revamped DC Comics cinematic universe which will combine film, television and animated projects. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn is overseeing the new slate and directing the relaunch’s first outing, Superman. Andy Muschietti is set to direct the Batman-centric feature The Brave and the Bold.
Gillepsie’s previous films I, Tonya and Cruella, both centered on complicated female protagonists, suggesting that he could be a good match for the material in the new Supergirl film. In 2023, Gunn explained the difference between the more idealistic Superman and the approach they were taking to his cousin for Warners revamped DCU cinematic universe –
We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth.
Currently, there is no release date announced for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. The only project in the revamped DCU with a release date is Gunn’s Superman, which is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
