The 50 Foot Woman is getting ready to attack again!
Or rather, director Tim Burton is readying to possibly direct a remake of the 1958 science-fiction movie Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman.
The Hollywood Reporter is stating that the director is attached to a new iteration of the film currently being developed at Warner Brothers. The screenplay will be provided by Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn.
Although he has a certain idiosyncratic visual style, Burton seems like an interesting choice due to his previously expressed fascination with 1950s design as seen in Edward Scissorhands while his 199- film Mars Attacks! pays homage to the science-fiction films of that decade.
Like a lot of 1950s genre B-movies, the film’s plotline is right there in the title. After a late-night encounter with an alien in the desert, a wealthy woman slowly grows to 50 feet tall and takes her revenge on her husband who was trying to steal her fortune.
This will not be the first remake of 50 Ft Woman. In 1993, Darryl Hannah starred in a new version for HBO directed by Christopher Guest. Two years later, exploitation director Fred Olen Ray produced a parody called Attack Of The 60 Foot Centerfold. In 2012 Roger Corman released his own parody Attack Of The 50 Foot Cheerleader starring former Miss Georgia Teen USA Jena Sims.
