The upcoming fourth season of the CW’s Superman And Lois will be the superhero series’s last.
The CW announced the ending of the series earlier today that the final ten-episode season starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in the title roles will air sometime in 2024.
Spinning out of the CW’s interconnected “Arrowverse” series of DC Comics adaptions, Superman And Lois is the last of the cycle of shows which started with the launch of 2012’s Arrow and spanned several other series including Flash, Black Lightning, Legends Of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman, all produced by Warner Brothers Television and producer Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions shingle. Additionally, Berlanti Productions also produced Stargirl, Doom Patrol and Titans for streaming. The shuttering Superman And Lois brings the overall franchise to a close.
The Hollywood Reporter stated that the cancellation comes “as producers Warner Bros. TV is clearing the decks of its DC Comics shows that fall outside of the universe currently being constructed by James Gunn.” As such, the cancellation does not come as much of a surprise, even if it is something of a disappointment. Superman And Lois really hit the mark in understanding its two core characters and explored their relationship and lives as parents of two teenagers alongside of dealing with all the standard things that superheroes have to deal with like supervillains and other dimensional invasions.
