Donald Glover will be back as suave intergalacrtic gambler Lando Calrissian and he will have a hand in the telling of his adventures.
The actor/writer has been signed to take over the writing details for the previously announced Lando Disney+ series, spinning Glover’s character off from 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Joining him on the scripting duties will be his brother Stephen Glover. The pair previously collaborated on the FX series Atlanta.
The deal was struck back in April, before the current strike started.
The Glovers will be taking over the project from Dear White People writer/director Justin Simien, who reportedly left the project before the brothers signed on for writing duties. Simien has Haunted Mansioon opening this weekend for Disney and is developing a television adaption of the Geoff Johns comic book Geiger for Paramount Television.
Donald Glover first portrayed the roguish Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story opposite Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. While the film received mixed reviews, one thing that was universally agreed upon was praise for Glover’s portrayal of a younger version of Billy Dee Williams’ character from the Star Wars installments The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker.
