Chris Redd is leaving Saturday Night Live. The five year veteran of the long-running sketch show will not be returning to the cast when the series kicks of its forty-eighth season on October 1.

Redd’s departure raises the number of cast members to leave in advance of the upcoming season to eight. Previously, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney were announced as leaving just as SNL’s last season was wrapping up last May. Last month, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor and Aristotle Athari were added to the list of departing cast members.

Coming as it does so close to the start of SNL‘s new season, Redd’s departure comes as somewhat of a surprise. Still, he does have a couple of projects in the works including developing the feature film Cyber Monday for Universal and an upcoming stand-up special for HBO Max.
