The United States and the Soviet Union will continue their race to establish a colony on Mars thanks to Apple TV+ renewing their alternate history space race drama For All Mankind for a fourth season on their streaming service.
The series charts how history could have changed had the Soviets beaten the US to being the first to land a man on the moon. Spurred on by loosing that honor to the Russians, season one of the series, which launched in late 2019, ended with the establishment of the first permanent lunar base by the US. The show’s second season jumped forward ten years and focuses on the growing US moon base and escalating tensions between the Soviets and the United States. The third season jumps forward another decade into the 1990s to focus on the race to land on Mars with the US and the Soviet Union finding themselves in competition with an unexpected third party.
For All Mankind was created by Battlestar Galactica and Outlander mastermind Ronald D Moore alongside Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. In 2021, the show won a Saturn award for “Best Fantasy Series.”
The fourth season renewal comes as the series is more than midway through airing its third season on Apple TV+. The season finale is set to be released on August 12.
Production on the fourth season is expected to begin next month for airing sometime next year.
