The Broken Lizard boys are back and this time they’re taking on Victor Hugo.
The comedy troup behind the popular comedy Super Troopers has started production on their latest film Quasi, a riff on Hugo’s classic novel The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.
According to Deadline –
The plot follows a hapless hunchback who only yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the King of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other.
As per usual with Broken Lizard projects, the entire group – Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske – are handling the script details as well as starring.
Adrianne Palicki rounds out the cast, presumably in an Esmerelda-like role.
While Chandrasekhar has handled the directorial duties for most of the group’s previous films, Heffernan took the reins for 2009’s The Slammin’ Salmon.
While most of Broken Lizard’s films have not always done well with critics, the group does have a devoted fan base and their films have always turned a profit in addition to doing well on home video.
