This year’s DC FanDome event kicked off with the first reveal of a project that has been in the works for a decade and a half – Dwayne Johnson bringing the superpowered anti-hero Black Adam to the big screen.
Johnson has been pushing for a Black Adam film – a role he says he was born to play – since back in 2007. And today he unveiled a clip showing the bits of behind the scenes footage before moving onto a (slightly edited down) scene from the beginning of the film in which a team of (unusually heavily armed) explorers who enter a mysterious temple-like structure. Unfortunately, one of the explorers reads aloud a certain magic word, familiar to DC Comics fans and anyone who happened to see the movie Shazam back in 2019. One lightening strike later and they are confronted by a rather large hooded figure who does not seem amused with the intruders.
Johnson also tweeted out the video below.
Last year at the inaugural DC FanDome, Johnson unveiled the first look at character designs at some of the other superheroes who will be appearing in the film such as Dr. Fate, Hawkman and Cyclone.
Black Adam is due in theaters on July 29, 2022.
