Surprising absolutely no one, Anthony Mackie is set to headline Captain America 4 for Marvel Studios.
Mackie joined the studio’s comic book-based cinematic universe in 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier as Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, a confederate of Chris Evans’s Captain America. He also appeared in the MCU installments Ant-Man (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). At the end of Endgame, Mackie’s Sam was given the Captain America shield by a now elderly, time-traveling Steve Rogers, though he was unsure of whether he was worthy of the honor and responsibility being bestowed. He worked through that issue in the Disney+ limited series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier earlier this year.
Falcon And Winter Soldier creator/writer Malcolm Spellman has already been tapped to co-write the Captain America 4 sreenplay alongside series writer Dalan Musson. FaWS director Kari Skogland will be pulling the same duty for Cap 4.
There’s no word yet as to when Marvel hopes to have the film in theaters. At the earliest, it would be late 2023 as the studio has announced their release schedule through May of that year.
