Leslie Grace has been cast as Barbara Gordon, aka the super heroine Batgirl, for the upcoming HBO Max film from Warner Brothers.
Deadline is reporting that the In The Heights star has been cast in Warner Brothers upcoming Batgirl film. The film has been targeted for an exclusive release on HBO Max.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the film with Bumblebee screenwriter Christina Hodson supplying the script.
The daughter of Gotham City police commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara Grodon began donning her own costume to fight the city’s criminal element as a teenager. Over time, she began working with Batman, his protege Dick Grayson, aka Robin, and a number of the other Gotham City vigilantes. For a brief period she retired the Batgirl persona to run the female crime-fighting team the Birds of Prey and to work as the information broker Oracle, supplying a number of the superheroes across the DC Comics world with much needed intel.
Warners has been moving towards getting a Batgirl movie into production for some time. In 2017, the studio hired Buffy, The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon to write and direct a Batgirl film. Whedon stepped away from the project a year later, reportedly stating that he was having difficulty coming up with a story that he felt suited the character.
