Finn Wittrock is getting a ring, a Green Lantern ring.
The American Horror Story actor has been cast in HBO Max’s upcoming Green Lantern series as Guy Gardner, a member of the interstellar peacekeeping force known as the Green Lantern Corps.
The DC Comics lore, the Green Lanterns strive to keep peace with the aid of rings that can manipulate energy to create specific constructs through the force of their will. Guy Gardner is not the only Green Lantern, but he is the most obnoxious. over the years he has been portrayed as a braggart and as a parody of hyper-masculinity. Still, in rare, unguarded moments he has demonstrated a less obnoxious self.
Rather than just focus on the contemporary adventures of members of the Green Lantern Corps, HBO Max’s official description of the show promises a much larger storytelling canvas.
Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.
The Hollywood Reporter also stated that they anticipated the casting announcement for who will be playing Alan Scott relatively soon, “as a deal with an actor is on the cusp of closing.”
