Netflix has ordered up two animated series – Skull Island, home of Legendary’s Monsterverse’s version of King Kong and Tomb Raider, based on the popular video game and occasional movie franchise.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Skull Island will center on “a group of shipwrecked characters trying to escape a dangerous and mysterious island,” with presumably one of those dangers being a rather oversized ape. Underwater scripter Brian Duffield is set to write and executive produce the series with Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Netflix’s Castlevania series, will be doing similar duties here.
The Tomb Raider series is set to serve as a sequel to the 2013-18 reboot trilogy of video games from game publisher Square Enix. Tasha Huo, (The Witcher: Blood Origin) is set to write and executive produce the series.
No other talent has been announced for either series, nor has an expected release date been scheduled.
