Chris Evans In Talks For Marvel Cinematic Universe Return

Captain America

Chris Evans may be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for one or possibly more new APPEARANCES IN THE Marvel Cic Universe as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

Deadline is reporting from sources that Evans has apparently changed his mind about hanging up the Avenger’s iconic shield following The Avengers: Endgame, the closing installment of Marvel Studio’s Phase Three film cycle.

[I]nsiders say its headed in that direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film. Sources add it’s unlikely to be a new Captain America installment and more likely to be like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in films like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Needless to say, Disney and Marvel had no comment.

So exactly how will they bring Cap back? No one knows outside of Marvel knows right now, but we can certainly make a guess in some broad terms. It does feel like a safe bet that it will somehow involve time travel and alternate realities. Let us take a look at three things we know about the just starting MCU Phase 4.

  • In Avengers: Endgame, we learned that time travel has the potential to create branching alternate realities. It is in one of those realities that Steve Rogers went off to live with the love of his life Peggy Carter after he time traveled to return the Infinity Stones to their proper place in history. He crossed back over to the main MCU at the end of his life to pass his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon character.
  • Both the the Disney+ WandaVision series, premiering this Friday, and the Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, due out in 2022, will be dealing with these multiple timelines. In fact, the former supposedly leads directly into the later.
  • In the upcoming Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, the comics character Kang is slated to appear, to be played by Jonathan Majors. in the comics, Kang is a villain who has time traveled to such a degree that there ae multiple versions of him running around at any given time.

With these puzzle pieces, as well as this new news of Evans’s potential return to the franchise, we are definitely starting to see the bigger picture of MCU Phase 4 story arc. We might not yet know how these pieces all fit together but it does seem probably that they are related.
