HBO Max has ordered direct to series a TV spinoff of writer/director Jamews Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad which will focus on ensemble cast member John Cena’s character of Peacemaker.
According to reports, the series will focus on Peacemaker’s origins. In the comics, Peacemaker is a man so dedicated to the iea of bringing peace to world he is willing to kill to do so.
Gunn is set to write all eight episodes of the series as well as direct at least the first installment. He shouldn’t be too hard pressed for time adding this to his schedule as the start date for his next film, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, has most likely been pushed back due to the recent release delays announced for that studio’s slate earlier today.
The order certainly signals Warner Brothers is confident with the movie that Gunn is in the process of putting finishing touches on and in Cena’s performance in particular.
This is not the first spinoff from an upcoming DC Comics-based film that the streamer has ordered. Recently, HBO Max ordered up a series that would serve as a prequel to Michael Reeve’s upcoming The Batman which would focus on corruption within the Gotham City Police Department.
The Suicide Squad is due in theaters on August 6, 2021.
