After months of not confirming any casting reports for their upcoming series set in the world of J R R Tolkien’s Middle Earth, Amazon finally announced the show’s main cast at the Television Critics Association winter press tour today.
The cast officially includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfyyd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawie, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Daniel Weyman.
Horvath, Kavenagh, Clark and Mawle had previously been reported as joining the series.
In keeping with the veil of secrecy around the project, Amazon did not reveal any character names for the announced cast. Casting reports came with attached character names that did not appear in any of Tolkien’s writings and were most likely false names to help preserve the show’s plotlines.
Amazon also still haven’t revealed what the series is even titled. While some outlets are calling it a Lord Of The Rings series, that would be a misnomer of sorts as it looks to actually set thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s literary masterwork.
Currently, table reads of the series’ first two episodes are ongoing in New Zealand, where the series will be shot. Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom director J A Bayona will be helming those episodes. Production is set to begin next month.
