Academy Announces Best Visual Effects Qualifiers

The Academy has announced the twenty films that have qualified for consideration in the Best Visual Effects category for this year’s Academy Award.

Among the nominations are the expected superhero blockbusters as well as adventure films, live action adaptations of animated features, a war movie, more than one film about fast cars, films that digitally de-aged their stars and more.

The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee will cull half of this list of twenty hopefuls for the short list of ten films that will go on to the nomination round. As some of these films seem to overlap with others – all three Marvel Cinematic Universe films are in contention, for example – it should be interesting to see which of these films the committee decides to move forward.

Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 13, with the Oscar ceremony being held on February 9.

The list of qualifying films is as follows –
