Paul Dano has joined the cast of Matt Reeves’s upcoming The Batman. Dano will be playing the iconic Batman villain the Riddler.
Interestingly, the Hollywood Reporter is stating that the character,s name will be Edward Nashton instead of the usual Edward Nygma from the comics.
The news comes quickly on the heels of word that negotiations between studio Warner Brothers and actor Jonah Hill who was being touted as being interested in playing either the Riddler or the Penguin had fallen through.
The Riddler is just one of a number of Batman Rogues Gallery members who are rumored to appear in the film. Some reports have stated that the movie’s storyline will be based at least in part on the 1996 miniseries/graphic novel The Long Halloween.
Robert Pattinson is set to star as Bruce Wayne, the billionaire who fights Gotham City crime at night as the Batman. Jeffrey Wright will be playing his ally Gotham City Police Commissioner Gordon while Zoe Kravitz will be appearing as Selina Kyle, aka the cat burglar known as Catwoman.
The Batman is set for a June 25, 2021 release.
Actually, ‘Nashton’ is from the comics. Originally, his last name was ‘Nigma’ in the comics. It was revealed in an issue of the Question that he changed his name from ‘Nashton’ to ‘Nigma’.
In recent years, his name has been retconned back, with the alternate spelling ‘Nygma’.
