It is looking like Robert Pattinson will be puting on the cowl of the Caped Crusader for director Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
It had been initially reported this evening that Pattinson had the job, but further reporting is showing that he is Reeves’ top pick. It is unclear if there is an actual offer out to the actor or if a deal has been made. Other names that have been recently reported as being on the studio’s shortlist include Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Pattinson steps into the role vacated by Ben Affleck, who played the superhero in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League as part of Warner Brothers’s DC Extended Universe film franchise. It is unclear of Reeves’ film will be part of that shared cinematic universe or if it will stand on its own.
Pattinson is perhaps best known for playing the lead teen heartthrob vampire in the adaptation of the young adult Twilight novel series. And while his acting was not very good in those films, Pattinson has since distinguished himself in a number of smaller indie films including David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis (2012), The Lost City Of Z (2016) and last year’s High Life.
