The X-Men, Marvel Comics superhero analog for the Civil Rights Movement, has fought a number of villains over the years, but in Dark Phoenix they will have to turn on one of their own. If the new trailer for Dark Phoenix that released last night looks familiar, that is because this is the second time that the film franchise has attempted to adapt the classic comics story of the same name. The previous iteration, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, was probably a low-point in the franchise’s history, so hopefully series writer/producer-turned-first-time-director Simon Kinberg will be able to bring something better to screens with this version.
Dark Phoenix arrives in theaters on June 7.
