It looks like it’s Jason Reitman they’re gonna call.
The Up In The Air director and son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman has already written and qill be directing a new Ghostbusters film that will be set in the same universe as the original comedy classic.
Entertainment Weekly broke the story that Reitman wil begin shooting the film this summer for a 2020 release.
Released in 1984, the original Ghostbusters starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as scientists-turned-paranormal exterminators who save New York City from a vengeful Sumarian diety. A sequel followed in 1989. In 2016, the studio tried to reboot the franchise with four female leads but the Paul Feig-directed film was met with middlimg box office and lukewarm reviews.
Said Reitman in a statement –
I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.
There is no word yet as to whether any of the original cast will be returning. The Hollywood Reporter is quoting sources saying that the production is currently looking to cast four teenage leads – two boys and two girls.
