It is really not much of a spoiler that Peter Parker, aka the amazing Spider-Man, will somehow survive being erased from existence by Thanos’s finger snap at the end of last summer’s The Avengers: Infinity War. This is all stuff based on comic books after all, and they have long had the trope of death not being such the setback for heroes as it may be in the real world. Besides, Sony wasn’t about to let perhaps the best live-action Spider-Man their franchise has ever had take a dirt nap and so they have Spidey’s next cinematic solo outing coming our way just a few short months after Avengers: Endgame hits theaters this summer.
And to whet our appetite for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony has just dropped the first trailer for the film this morning.
We don’t know much about the plot except that Peter Parker and his classmates go on a school trip to Europe where Peter gets recruited by spymaster Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) for some spy shenanigans. We knew that Jake Gyllenhall would be showing up as the classic Spidey villain Mysterio, but the trailer here seems to show him presenting himself first as a hero. So we can see how those particular storybeats play out. Also, it seems that it is now Happy Hogan’s (Jon Favreau) turn to be infatuated with Peter’s Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).
Spider-Man: Far From Home opens July 5.
