Golden Globes Nominations: BLACK PANTHER Nominated For Best Picture–Drama

Could this be the year a comic book film gets an Oscar nomination? If the Golden Globe nominations are any indication, the answer is yes.

The nominations for the 76th Golden Globes ceremony were announced today and one particular nomination stands out: Black Panther in the Best Picture–Drama category.

Black Panther has become the focus of debate as to whether or not a popular genre film deserves recognition during awards time. The proposed then tabled Best Popular Film Oscar was meant to be a showcase for these type of films, but caused an uproar from some who thought quality films should be represented in the Best Picture category regardless of popularity or genre. This nomination lends weight to that latter argument.

While the Golden Globes seldom match one for one with the Oscar nominations, they are seen as an indicator of who will be battling it out for an Academy Award.
