I’m of two minds on whether or not What Women Want really needed to be remade. On one hand, it did make a lot of money. On the other hand, it’s not exactly a cinematic classic. I’d be that if you asked 50 people what their top ten films would be, the original would not appear on any of them.
But whether or not it needs to be remade is pointless. It is being remade, and here we have the first Red Band trailer for the gender-swapped What Men Want.
The trailer wastes no time in taking advantage of the Red Band marking to show us that this version will be a far more ribald version updated for the #metoo era. You get two rather prominent obscenities with in the first 10 seconds, so no listening to this trailer at work or when the kiddies are around.
I don’t know whether the film will be good or not, but it does star Taraji P. Henson, one of the best actresses of her generation, so it should be at least watchable. And she has a pretty good supporting cast around her that includes Aldis Hodge, Tracy Morgan, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Phoebe Robinson, Max Greenfield, Jason Jones, Brian Bosworth, Chris Witaske and Erykah Badu.
What Men Want is set to arrive in theaters on February 8, 2019.
