Ewan McGregor is heading to Gotham City and it will mean trouble for the Birds of Prey. The Star Wars prequel actor has signed onto the female-fronted comic book film to play Black Mask, the villain of the piece.
Before becoming the mob boss known as Black Mask, Roman Sionis was the son of one of Gotham’s wealthiest men, right after Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. He seized control of his father’s empire after discreetly murdering his parents, but Roman had no head for business and he soon ran everything into the ground. Rather than admit that things were his own fault, he blamed a myriad of others, including the much more successful Wayne.
Margot Robbie heads up the cast, reprising her Suicide Squad character of Harley Quinn. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is set to play the huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be Black Canary and Rosie Perez has signed on to play police detective Renee Montoya. Director Cathy Yanhas indicated that the character of Casandra Cain will also be appearing in the movie, but there has been no word as to casting.
Birds Of Prey is scheduled for a February 7, 2020 release.
