Naomi Watts Set To Star in GAME OF THRONES Prequel

HBO’s planned Game Of Thrones prequel series has found one of its leads in the form of Naomi Watts, who reportedly will be playing “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”

The prequel series is reportedly set thousands of years before the current hit epic fantasy series’s timeline and, according to the Hollywood reporter, “Chronicles the world’’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” The Reporter further quotes from HBO’s logline for the series – “Only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend – it’s not the story we think we know.”

The prequel series, co-created by Game Of Thrones author George R R Martin and screenwriter Jane Goldman, was picked up for series last June by the network. The Martin-Goldman project was just one of several potential “successor shows” that HBO was developing. Other writers working on Game Of Thrones prequel projects include Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Brian Helgeland (Legend), Cary Wray (Westworld) and Game Of Thrones series writer Bryan Cogman. This is the first of any of the potential prequel series to get into casting and it is possible that not all of the series being developed by HBO will be picked up.

Don’t be looking for this new series any time soon, though. Previously, HBO president Casey Bloys has stated that any Game Of Thrones spinoff would not be seen until at least a year after the main series finishes its run. Game Of Thrones‘ final season is slated to air next year.
