When the first Aquaman trailer hit during the San Diego Comic Con back in July, we gushed about the film’s epic scope on display in it. However, the extended trailer release for the film in connection to the New York Comic Con shows we have not seen anything yet.
Clocking in at more than 5 minutes, the trailer gives us a little more hints at the plot, a taste of Mera’s (Amber Heard) and her powers, a brief glimpse of Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and a good look at Aquaman’s arch-enemy, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).
You can find fault here if you look closely enough. I mean, the “taking a doohickey to a remote, desolate location to put it in another doohickey to get a message from the past” is copped from the Donner Superman films, but I am extremely impressed by the footage. Especially the rooftop chase between Mera and Black Manta’s troops, which is fantastic.
Judge for yourself. Here is the trailer.
Aquaman opens on December 21, 2018
