Matt Smith Signs On For STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

And just like that, two of my favorite nerd worlds collide!

Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has been cast in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

Variety is reporting that the British actor will be joining the production, which is currently filming in the UK. There is no word as to whether Smith’s character will be falling on the side of the heroic Resistance, siding with the evil First Order or landing somewhere in between.

Smith will be joining franchise regulars Mark Hammill, Anthony Daniels, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver. Billie Dee Williams is making his return to the series, last appearing as suave gambler/conman Lando Calrissian in 1983’s Return Of The Jedi. Joining in for the first time for the final installment of this current trilogy is Keri Russell, Richard E Grant, Dominic Monaghan and Naomi Ackie.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set for a December 2019 release.
