Peter Dinklage is set to star in Rumpelstiltskin, an adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale for Sony.
Patrick Ness, the author of the book A Monster Calls, which was turned into the 2016 animated feature of the same name, and the science-fiction trilogy Chaos Walking, is set to write the screenplay.
The fairy tale centers on an evil king who forces a young girl to spin straw into gold on a magical spinning wheel. To help her with the task, she enlists the aid of a magical imp to be played by Dinklage.
I have to admit, as much as I like Dinklage’s work, I did wince when this news was announced. It seems like such an obvious move to cast him in this part, perhaps especially after his wonderfully counter-intuitive casting as a giant in The Avengers: Infinity War.
No director has been attached to the project and Sony has not yet set a release date.
