Jim Jarmusch Begins Production On Zombie Comedy THE DEAD DON’T DIE

Writer/director Jim Jarmusch has begun production on his latest film, a zombie comedy titled The Dead Don’t Die.

The film looks to reunite the director with a number of his actor collaborators from previous films including Adam Driver (Paterson), Bill Murray (Broken Flowers), Chloë Sevigny (Broken Flowers), Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive and Broken Flowers) and Steve Buscemi (Mystery Train). Also reported in the cast is Jarmusch newcomer Selena Gomez.

The announcement didn’t give a plot synopsis for the film but did suggest that it could be considered a companion piece to his vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive. If that’s the case it might end up appealing more to the art house crowd than to the usual horror fan. Over the last couple of years we have seen a rise in filmmakers working in horror who work with the more allegorical and subtextual elements that the genre offers instead of just grizzly thrills. It will be interesting to see what a filmmaker of Jarmusch’s talent will bring to this movement.
