Just one new release this week but it’s a blockbuster.
1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Universal, 4,475 Theaters, 128 Minutes, Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of science-fiction violence and peril , Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer Rating at press time: 50% Fresh [253 reviews]): So, this franchise.
I was never a fan of dinosaurs. I might have been from the generation before they became popular with kids. But I never had any little plastic figures to play with as a young’un. I couldn’t tell you which dinosaur was alive at what time, or any of that stuff. So this franchise is kind of lost on me. But it’s massively popular with a lot of people, so I will be alone in that category.
This time around Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) return to the island to save as many dinosaurs as they can before a volcano erupts and kills them all. They think that they are working in the name of science, but the company that hired them has a different purpose for the dinos. When the dinosaurs fall into the wrong hands, its up to Owen and Claire to stop the bad guy’s plans before it is too late.
Critics are split on this one, literally. But reviews might not matter all that much.
Next week, the new releases bring us a sequel and an adaptation of a sneaker commercial. No, really.
