If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off films it’s this – never count them until the first showing has started. Case in point – Silver & Black.
Deadline has news that Silver & Black has been bumped out of its February 8, 2019 release date. That spot on Sony’s schedule will now be taken up by the Tom Hanks World War II drama Greyhound.
In retrospect, we should have seen this coming. In order to reach that release date, pre-production should have been well underway. But, unless I’ve missed something, there was no movement on even casting the film, let alone starting production.
The film will be put on hold indefinitely as the film goes back into development. One area that will be worked on is a rewrite of the script handed in by screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking). It appears that Gina Prince-Bythewood will still stay on as director.
One has to wonder if the negative reaction to the Venom teaser trailer made Sony a bit skittish about this film. There’s nothing quite like fan outrage to send studios into a panic about their upcoming films. If that’s the case, and we get a stronger Silver & Black out of it, all the better.
More on this as it develops.
