What separates The Predator from being just the latest in a long line of attempts to reboot the franchise is Shane Black. You’ll probably hear this a million times between now and September, but Black was a member of the cast of the first film and did script punch ups while on set.
Whether this makes him the best pick to write and direct this rebootquel will remain to be seen. But judging from the new teaser trailer for the film, that looks like it might be the case. I’m just glad to see that Black is growing as a creator, and now feels confident to set his films at a different holiday than Christmas.
This time around, The Predator is more dangerous than ever. Genetically altered with the DNA of the most dangerous creatures on every planet it visited, they have become the ultimate hunters. Now they are coming to suburbia. Watch out.
Here is the official plot synopsis:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
Place your bets that the disgruntled science teacher makes it to the end. I can see that happening.

The Predator opens in theaters on September 14.
