Marvel Studios has a habit of casting high profile, award-worthy actors like Glenn Close, Michael Douglas and Robert Redford in roles in their films, and it looks like the tradition will continue in Captain Marvel.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision is reporting that four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening has joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel Studios feature.
Benning has earned Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress for 1990’s The Grifters and Best Lead Actress for 1999’s American Beauty, 2005’s Being Julia and 2011’s The Kids Are Alright (where she worked with the MCU’s Hulk, Mark Ruffalo). She is also know for her roles in Bugsy (where she worked with future Mandarin Ben Kingsley), Regarding Henry, The American President (opposite the MCU’s Hank Pym, Michael Douglas), and Mars Attacks! (which also starred MCU players Glenn Close and Natalie Portman). Her most recent film was last year’s Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool.
No word as of yet as to who Bening will be playing, but rumor has it that her character will be a scientist of some sort.
Captain Marvel is set to be released on March 8, 2019.
