Wonder Woman was once the crown jewel in Warner Brothers’ attempts to get a DC Extended Universe off the ground. But that is all about to change with a little bit of casting for Wonder Woman 2.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers is in talks with Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig to play the sequel’s villainess, Cheetah.
There have been a number of incarnations of Cheetah over the years. In comic’s Golden Age she was Priscilla Rich, a vain socialite who becomes the Cheetah to avenge being shown up by Wonder Woman at a party. Next is Debbie Domaine, Rich’s niece who is kidnapped by a terrorist organization and brainwashed into become the Cheetah. Finally, there was Dr. Barbara Minerva, an archeologist who got cat-like powers from a plant god called Urzkartaga. Over the years, she has become Wonder Woman’s arch-enemy.
I know that I am in the minority here, but I don’t like Wiig as an actress. Her run on SNL was marred by her having at most 4 characterizations that she could employ with the only difference between them was the wig she wore.
Immediately after leaving SNL she tried to establish herself as a “serious ” actress, balancing work in comedies such as Bridesmaids, Zoolander 2 and Ghostbusters with work in more dramatic fare such as Girl Most Likely, Nasty Baby and The Martian. I have not been impressed. And I could think off the top of my head at least 20 actresses who could do a better job here.
More on this as it develops.
