New Releases only number one this week: Insidious; The Last Key
1. Insidious: The Last Key (Universal, 3,116 Theaters, 103 Minutes, Rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic content, violence and terror, and brief strong language, Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer at press time: 22% Fresh [45 Reviews]): So, the January dump begins, and this film is the perfect January dump film.
Let’s examine that. It is the fourth installment in a successful franchise, it is a PG-13 rated horror film with a run time under two hours, and it was made for $10 million. It was also bumped back from October of last year to this weekend, which it is the only film in wide release.
That is the perfect formula for a bad movie to make a lot of dough in a short amount of time, and what ever it makes, it will likely make a profit.
This film lands in-between the third and the first film in continuity as Elise (Lin Shaye) must investigate a haunting in her family home.
Next week, the new releases will feature Liam Neeson and Tarahi P. Henson kicking but in two very different situations.
