New Releases: December 8, 2017

This week’s new releases continues the between holiday lull with only one film opening in over 1,000 theaters.

1. Just Getting Started (Broad Green Pictures, 2,146 Theaters, 91 Minutes, Rated PG-13 for language, suggestive material and brief violence, Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer at press time: N/A [0 reviews logged]): If you were somebody who watched Grumpy Old Men and thought, “Gee, this movie would be so much better if the mob was trying to kill Jack Lemmon,” then brother do I have a film for you!

Duke Diver (Morgan Freeman) is the manager of a rest home called Villa Capri, and is the big man on campus there. That is, until former FBI agent Leo (Tommy Lee Jones) checks in and steals some of the spotlight. An animosity begins between the two but their rivalry has to hit pause when Duke’s past as a mob lawyer comes back to haunt him.

The cast is great and the film is directed to Ron Shelton, one of the most underrated directors working in films today. However, the fact that the films has either not been screened by critics or they were forced to keep their reviews under wraps is never a good sign.

Next week, we get to see which side of the force Rey chooses and if Ferdinand can steal any of her audience away.
