Warners Puts CLEOPATRA JONES Reboot In Development

It’s looking like returning blaxploitation hero Shaft is getting some company on the big screen. Following news that New Line has set a release date for their planned Shaft revival, it is being reported that Warner Brothers has plans to bring Cleopatra Jones back to theaters.

Deadline is reporting that the studio is developing a new version of the 1973 urban action classic that saw Ramara Dobson star in the title role of a government agent who uses her cover as a high-profile model to work to bring down a drug empire built by a crime lord known as Mommy (Shelley Winters).

Handling this new iteration of the character is Misha Green, who will be writing and producing, Green is co-creator and executive producer of the WGN series Underground. Currently she is working with executive producers Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams on the upcoming series Lovecraft for HBO.

The original Cleopatra Jones is a modest hit for the studio and spawned a sequel, 1975’s Cleopatra Jones And The Casino Of Gold.
