Fox is starting to cast up their next X-Men film as the Hollywood Reporter is stating that Lizzy Caplan is in talks for a lead role in Gambit.
The film will star Channing Tatum as the fan favorite mutant superhero who has the ability to manipulate kinetic energy, often doing so through playing cards. Gore Verbinski is slated to direct.
This is not the first time that Kaplan has been in contention for an X-Men franchise film. Last year, the actress was reportedly on the shortlist to play the superhero Domino in next year’s Deadpool 2. The part ultimately went to Zazie Beetz.
Gambit has had a rough road through development. Prior to Verbinski signing on to direct, both Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman had taken cracks at getting the project in front of cameras.
Fox has been amping up their output from their X-Men franchise. Next year will see three X-Men films hitting theaters – The New Mutants on April 13, Deadpool 2 on June 1 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix on November 2. Gambit is currently scheduled for a February 14, 2019 release.
