Only one film in this weeks new releases, and it’s Marvel’s hammer wielding hero.
1. Thor: Ragnarok (Disney, 4,080 Theaters, 130 Minutes, Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive material; Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer at press time: 93% Fresh [241 Reviews]: In every big family, you’ll have children who don’t live up to their potential. One kid might turn out to be a doctor, the other a lawyer but one will be flipping burgers at McDonalds. If the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that family, the Thor franchise would be the kid asking us if we want fries with that.
While no film in the series was truly awful, none got the reviews of the Iron Man or Captain America films. While all did decent business at the box office, the franchise never reached the $1 billion mark that other MCU films did.
This installment seem to be course correcting by Marvel to make Thor more audience and critic friendly. Will it work? Well, that Tomatometer score above is an improvement. We’ll have to see how it does at the box office since it practically has the weekend to itself.
If you want to know what we here at FilmBuffOnline think about the film, you can read what our newest contributor Natasha Bogutzki thought about it here, and check back for my review of the film sometime during the weekend.
Next week’s new releases will bring us an all-star sequel and an all-star remake. See you then.
