Considering that Venom is going to be the Spider-Man spin-off that doesn’t spin-off from any Spider-Man film, Sony is going to have to work hard to make the film stand on its own. Casting Tom Hardy as the lead and hiring Ruben Fleischer to direct were two giant steps in the right direction. Today, they made two more big steps.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that multiple time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams is in negotiations to join the film. In addition, Rogue One‘s Riz Ahmed is also in talks for a role.
Williams came to attention on the TV show Dawson’s Creek. She quickly rose from that humble beginnings to become one of the most in demand serious actresses in Hollywood. She has four Oscar nods, in 2oo6 for Best Supporting Actress for Brokeback Mountain, Best Actress in 2011 for Blue Valentine and in 2012 for My Week With Marilyn (for which she won a Golden Globe), and Best Supporting Actress again this year for her work in Manchester by the Sea.
Ahmed played a defected Imperial pilot who helps the Rebels steal the Death Star plans in Rogue One. He won a Primetime Emmy for his role in the acclaimed HBO series The Night Of.
No word as to what characters Williams and Ahmed will be playing. But we should be finding that out soon enough–production should start in the near future in order to meet it’s October 5, 2018 release date.
