The most recent Joker might be shifting to the lighter side of the hero/villain spectrum with the lead in Bloodshot.
Deadline is reporting that Jared Leto is circling Sony’s Valiant adaptation, Bloodshot. The film is a part of a planned extended universe featuring the Valiant characters. The film is set to be directed by Dave Wilson.
Leto took over as the Joker for Warner Brothers in last year’s Suicide Squad. The thought was that would be start of multiple appearances in DC Extended Universe films. While actors playing characters in more than one company’s comic book franchise is not unheard of (see Evans, Chris and Reynolds, Ryan), playing two characters of this size and importance to the publisher is rare.
The fact that Leto’s name is in consideration means Sony is serious about creating a franchise here. While he might not be, on the surface, the best match for the character’s two identities–a mobster healed with nanites and turned into a killing machine or a soldier who was infused with nanites to become a killing machine, but he did win an Oscar and would do whatever it takes to get into the role.
