Twentieth Century Fox has some big plans for their X-Men franchise, staking out six dates a span of two years for a sextet of untitled films.
These six films join the three that the studio already has in various stages of production for next year – New Mutants (April 13), Deadpool 2 (June 1) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2).
The newly announced dates are June 7, 2019, November 22, 2019, March 13, 2020, June 26, 2020, October 2, 2020 and March 5, 2021.
So what could these films possibly be? A couple of safe guesses would be the inevitable next mainline X-Men film after Dark Phoenix and most likely a Deadpool 3. If New Mutants does well next spring, the studio could more than likely have a sequel ready for one of the latter just announced dates. Josh Brolin is set to appear in Deadpool 2 as fan favorite character Cable, and if audience reaction is favorable, I wouldn’t be surprised if the studio would spin him off into his own solo vehicle.
Fox also has a few X-Men related properties still in development including one based on the X-Force comics series, which could also be a place where Brolin’s Cable could show up. The studio has also been working long and hard at trying to get a film featuring the hero Gambit, in the person of Channing Tatum, onto the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter also states that there has been “talk about a Laura spinoff starring Dafne Keen, the young breakout star of Logan.”
