New MUMMY Trailer Sees Tom Cruise Facing Off Against “Ultimate Evil”

We’re still a few weeks out from the release of Universal’s The Mummy, so it is time for a new, and possibly last, trailer for the film. This is also the first major promotional piece that pushes the fact that this film is the first of Universal’s planned cinematic universe featuring their classic monster characters – “Witness the beginning of a dark universe.” The new clip features a bit more of scenes we’ve previously glimpsed in the previous two trailers for the film. This is a strategy I like, just expanded our knowledge of the few things that have been revealed before rather than showing us entirely new things. That suggests that they are holding back some sequences that we won’t see until we are seated in our local cineplex with a bucket of popcorn in our laps.

Here’s the studio’s official synopsis –

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy hits theaters June 9.
