Ewan McGregor is heading to the 100 Acre Woods.
The Hollywood ReporterHollywood Reporter is stating that the actor will be taking on the titular role of Christopher Robin, the grown up version of the young boy who shared adventures with Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Eyeore and the other whimsical characters who inhabited A. A. Milne’s beloved children’s stories. According to their story, the adult Christopher Robin is one “who’s lost his sense of imagination and is a businessman focused on work and success.” Presumably the film will go a route similar to Steven Spielberg’s 1991 film Hook, and have Christopher Robin go on a journey that culminates in him reconnecting to the magic of his childhood.
The film is set to be directed by Marc Forster. He seems an odd choice for the project , given his more recent films have been the zombie epic World War Z and the James Bond franchise installment Quantum of Solace. But prior to those he dabbled in the realm of another British children’s literary classic with 2004’s Finding Neverland and dealt with modern day fantasy in the 2006 Will Ferrell comedy Stranger Than Fiction.
The original screenplay is by Listen Up Philip‘s scripter Alex Ross Perry. Spotlight writer Tom McCarthy did some subsequent drafts, though Disney is bringing in Hidden Figures‘s Allison Schroeder for a new draft of the script.
