Universal Studios has bought Elyse Hollander’s Madonna biopic screenplay Blonde Ambition. The script from the newcomer writer headlined last year’s Black List, the industry survey of the most liked unproduced screenplays circulating in Hollywood.
The film looks at the early years of the pop icon, as Michigan-born Madonna Louise Ciccone struggles to start her music career in New York City in the early 1980s. Her work would culminate with the the release of her debut, self-titled album in 1983, which featured the future hits “Holiday,” “Borderline” and “Lucky Star.”
The studio has lined up Fifty Shades Of Grey producer Michael De Luca, Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment and John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions to share producing duties.
